HEY!

I kind of forgot I ever had a xanga account, so here's my NEW blog.  I'm just going to have blogs laying all over the place, like children I've abandoned.  Poor souls.  http://driftwoodtumble.blogspot.com/

I thought since it has been two months, maybe I'd update the xanga.

Christmas break was faaaaabulous.  I miss it already.

The church plant is picking up speed; we're starting a small group Sunday night for those interested in getting involved.  It is going to be a really exciting year, I think.

I am really all out of words... I need to get back into practice with writing.  I just don't have anything to say, and that's totally unlike me.  I'll get back with you when I have something good :)

Ooh I am starting a new Bible study series Thursday with my old group at HCC - it is a Beth Moore study, and I LOVE Beth Moore's studies.  WAAY excited.  I haven't been involved with an organized Bible study since last year.

Someday, we'll do another girls night.  I'm sorry I stink at scheduling them; with Lydia, it is a tad bit more difficult.

Much love...

Run down...

As those of you in my study halls and class noticed, I was not at school today - had to attend to the needs of Lydia, who has a bad ear infection.  And let me tell you, I am whipped.  Taking care of her all day has worn me out and stressed me out.  I know she'll be fine, but I feel terrible for her - her eye is all red and she is cranky as all get-out.

So it has been a rough day.

Don't know who is going to the party at school tomorrow night, but I hope to be there!  I'm not sure if I will be able to though, since Lyd is still sick.  It wouldn't be a very responsible parent thing for me to leave her with someone else when she feels so crummy.  But the husband will be there.  So have a jolly good time without me!  Harumph!

No worries.  I am going to watch all sorts of chic flicks all night tonight and all night tomorrow night, in between taking care of Lydia.  It will be a chic flick smorgasbord.  That word makes me think of smores, which makes me think of eating dinner, which I haven't prepared yet.  So on that note, I am going to go grill a piece of chicken and make a salad and get ready for an evening of weepy eyes and sighs.

Have a faaaantastic night.

In reply to a post...

I wrote this in reply to a friend talking about the myspace phenom, and since I wrote a book in reply, I thought I'd stick it up on my xanga too.

Hey friend,

Excellent post - I've talked to a few people about the phenomenon of blogging and online communications.  I'm with you - person-to-person contact is so much more valuable.  I think online communications have become a lazy way to stay in touch with people - I only have to post once about my life, and whoever is interested can sit down and read it.  There isn't a whole lot of intimacy involved with that, and it saves me having to write ten emails.  Isn't that terrible???

On the other hand, hooking up with so many of my friends and acquaintances of old would never happen with all of the "stuff" I jam into each week - therefore, myspace and xanga allows me to have all of these pseudo-relationships with people... maybe we could call them fast food friendships?...  Heaven forbid I pick up the phone and arrange for a coffee date with someone, drive a half hour to meet them, and spend two hours hanging out - there are more time-consuming activities to do, like work, clean the house, sleep, play with the baby, hang out with the husband... So in the end, we have more friends/acquaintances, more connections, less time to spend with them, and as a result, shallower relationships.  Is that overanalyzing the web-world, or am I on to something?

Now, I'll admit too, I'm on myspace.  I love it.  But like a twitch in my brain, a quiet alarm sounds every time I log on, saying, "this isn't enough".  Real, honest, human contact is missing.

I should post this on my xanga.  It's the most writing I've done in weeks!

Hope to chat soon :)  Love ya.
