So in the end, we have more friends/acquaintances, more connections, less time to spend with them, and as a result, shallower relationships. Is that overanalyzing the web-world, or am I on to something?

Now, I'll admit too, I'm on myspace. I love it. But like a twitch in my brain, a quiet alarm sounds every time I log on, saying, "this isn't enough". Real, honest, human contact is missing.

I should post this on my xanga. It's the most writing I've done in weeks!

Hope to chat soon :) Love ya.

Nothing New Under the Sun...

I have an idea for a Wells...
Francine Rivers is by far the best Christian fiction writer I have read. She is so gifted at character development, writing from different points of view, pulling you along to the point where you cannot put it down. This particular book begins very quickly with a college-aged Christian going to a Christian university, engaged to a man who wants to be a pastor. She has everything pretty well laid out for her - she was raised in a Christian home, she has Christian friends, she is a very faithful Christian herself. On the way back from work one night, she gets raped. And then becomes pregnant. What unfolds through her extremely unfortunate and heart-breaking circumstances is absolutely fabulous.

The author does such a terrific job of walking through the decision of whether to have an abortion, keep the baby, or have the baby and give it up for adoption, and all of the characters' feelings about what should be done, from the girl's parents to her grandma to her fiance to her roommate to the college dean. It's fabulous.

Other books you might consider by Francine Rivers - A Redeeming Love (tied as my favorite) and the Mark of the Lion series. Mmm! Excellent.

On a more personal note, life with Lydia continues to be the best thing ever. When the time is right, ladies, do consider having children. They are truly a blessing from the Lord, in spite of the crying and smelly diapers.

It is a fascinating read because it comes from the perspective of historians and archaelogists instead of theologians and pulls some really interesting facts about NT times to light, bringing the humanity of Jesus into the picture. That being said, I'm also bathing the whole reading experience in prayer... since it is a book written by someone who isn't interested in the miraculous or spiritual, the author tends to disregard things like the virgin birth, walking on water, water to wine, etc. and theorize about what he supposes really happened. There is a great paragraph, though, about delving into these sorts of issues, that I want to post here (by the way, this is at the start of a chapter about John the Baptist, entitled, "The Big Dipper"... ha ha ha):

"This is, perhaps, a good place to pause and reissue a warning. What we have been involved with up to now - what the whole field of New Testament scholarship takes as its coin - is theory. No one can prove that Jesus formed his community of disciples under the influence of the Greek philosopher's school, just as no one can prove that he was or was not virginally conceived. Faith has it all over historical analysis here: if by faith one knows something to be true, then it is true. Faith doesn't rest on data. If one is compelled to venture out into the land of historical reconstruction, the best one can hope for is honest inquiry and educated guesswork. If the picture that results makes sense, that's good. And if this in turn puts one's Christian faith on more solid footing, that's even better." (Shorto, p. 81).

In short, if we look to sources other than the Gospels and the understanding of God imparted to us by the Holy Spirit, we must remember that the world's knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. People can theorize until the world comes to an end, but when it does, what will matter is what we know to be true: Jesus Christ, Son of God, issues saving grace to those who have faith in Him. And that's all.

I'm also reading "In the minds of unchurched Harry and Mary" recommended by Knori to my husband. It's great. Lee Strobel is a terrific writer.

Well the husband is getting on my case about being ready to go. So I suppose I should get ready. Have a fantastic weekend!

Web Design....

Well I am WAY excited because I might be teaching the web design class this year! All depends on what I can do with Lydia while I'm teaching. Should be great though - I got a couple sample textbooks today to see what might work for the class. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to teach... hopefully I won't be your least favorite teacher ;)

I've been crazy busy with Lydia lovin' her up :) She is the most awesomest baby ever. In my humble opinion. Gotta run - not a lot of time for pc stuff lately. No matter - hope ya'll are having a great summer so far!
